David S. (Sandy) Dolowitz has practiced family law exclusively for over 30 years and law for over 40 years. He has experience in all areas of family law:

David Sander Dolowitz has opened his own law office after 44 years of practice.

Sandy graduated from the Quinney Law School at the University of Utah in 1966. He then spent two years as a law clerk for Chief Judge Willis W. Ritter of the United States District Court for the District of Utah. He received one of the first Reginald Heber Fellowships and trained in Philadelphia during the summer of 1968. He was appointed as the Director of Salt Lake County Legal Services in 1970 and served as the Director until 1975, when that office, based on a plan he had prepared, expanded to become Utah Legal Services.

Sandy has been recognized and accepted as a Diplomat in the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, an organization made up of 100 of the top family lawyers in the country. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, where he currently serves on the Board of Governors. It is his second term. He organized and served as the first President of the Mountain States Chapter of the AAML. He also served for many years as a member and chair of the Domestic Tax Committee until the decision was made to eliminate the committee because so few changes were occurring in tax law. At that point he was appointed to and presently serves on the Board of Editors of the Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.He is a Fellow in the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and recently was advised that he had been rated AV rated by Martindale Hubbell for 30 years and selected as Best Lawyers in America for over 20 years. He has also been selected among the Mountain West Super Lawyers. Ten years ago he was invited to join the Matrimonial Network, Selected Lawers, also known as the “Dirty Thirty,” this association drew the attention of the American Bar Association Journal which wrote about the attorneys and their diverse interests, all of whom they declared were extraordinarily able family lawyers. He is a member of the ABA Family Law Section and has been for many years. He having served as Chair of their Domestic Tax Committee and as a member of the Custody and Alimony Committees. He has served as the President of the Utah Section of Family Law and been honored as Lawyer of the Year. He has lectured for the Bar on many occasions and published nearly a dozen articles in the Utah Bar Journal. The most recent one dealing with a revisitation of recent developments in the law regarding gifted, inherited and premarital property. He has authored for the Family Advocate of the American Bar Association’s Family Law Section “Why You Need a Tax Expert.” For the Utah community, he served an appointment under Scott Matheson on the Board of Family Services and Governor Leavitt’s Committee on Diversity. In the Jewish Community, he has served as the President of the Jewish Community Center, the United Jewish Federation of Utah and Jewish Family Services. He has on occasion sat on the board of Directors of Congregation Kol Ami.

In 1975 he joined the law firm of Parsons, Behele and Latimer, where he practiced as a shareholder until 1987.

After joining Cohne, Rappaport & Segal Law Firm in 1987, he limited his practice to family law, practicing with the firm for 23 years, then moved to practice in his present firm of Dolowitz Hunnicutt with Jim Hunnicutt and Brandi Curtis.
